Last week I went to a client’s home to deliver one of my artworks on the Duomo. While I was setting up the work, we discussed the fact that whoever loves Milan, immediately think to the Duomo, to the Madonnina. Yes, there are also other symbolic places I would say “untouchable” such as Sant’Ambrogio, the San Siro stadium for sportsmen, Unicredit and the whole area of Porta Garibaldi with the Isola district. But why the Duomo?
I try to give my interpretation starting from the painting you see. It is a small painting (24x30cm), and the Duomo is seen from via Orefici, coming out of the square. The aspect that surprises me most is the total harmony between the life of the square and the spiers of the Duomo, which in their verticality make the whole expanse of the sky explode with the splendor of the Madonnina.
In this square I see the path of life, which starts from life down to earth, one made up of conquests, “revenue”, defeats, joys, sorrows, etc. This dynamism is perceived in that magma of colors. Then the threads help us to do an exercise that sometimes alone we are not able to do, that is to look up from our little world, and look at the things that are there, which for the most part are also beautiful!
Happy Monday and good week to all.
